  • You will be happy to know that after grinding my ass off in the Mogami I managed to buy the H39. He is mostly stock as we speak but here are my initial impressions about him:

    • Gun are lackluster: DPM is behind ships like the NC due to less guns and awkward gun layout. Her 16inch guns are the best choice for me: lighter and similar DPM (like only 50 less compare to the 16.5inch guns) while having greater ranger.
    • Secondaries are nice, though the 4.1inch guns are terrible at damaging anything that is not a DD. The 5.9inch guns reload is bad though the damage and range makes them acceptable.
    • Torpedoes are gimmicky and for self defence only. Don't try ot use them offensively as they lack the range.
    • Durability is lacking as well: armour is not the best and he is a huge target.
    • Speed is his true strength: 25.9 knots stock. She can keep up with your cruisers and hunt down enemy ones.

Overall, not a bad ship but I would choose the Montana and NC over him. However, the idea of a fast hound could appeal to many people. I feel that the H39 will play similar to a battlecruiser in how she plays.

Do you have the H39 yourself? If so, how do you feel about him? If not, do you plan to get him eventually?

    • Yeah, I've got her. I've found her bloody well nice, except against Yammy's and Montana's. I prefer the 16.5" guns, as they are much punchier. I also dropped the cruddy 4.1" secondaries to save weight.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, I should get rid of the 4.1inch guns.

How large is her citital? Should I devote a lot of armour to the middle or should I spread it our more?

        Loading editor
    • Most of the ship is the citadel, to be honest...

        Loading editor
    • Okay, thanks.

    • The armour protection on the H39 can be a bit weird, as when you make the armour optimally thick, your citadel still isn't well protected against American 16" and the Yammy's 18.1" guns, and your fore and aft ends can be penned by continuous 8" fire. Provides near immunity against 14", 15", and 6" guns though.

        Loading editor
    • So I should spread my armour out a bit more then, right?

        Loading editor
    • That's the tricky part. If you space it out too much, your citadel becomes vulnerable to 14" and 15" gunfire.

H39 is a tricky and temperamental ship, but highly rewarding if you outfit her correctly.

    • I wonder what the top tier German BB will be. Probably H41/42.

Also, is it just me, or is the H39 bigger than even the Yamato (not heavier, just bigger)

        Loading editor
    • Honestly, if the devs add the Super Yamato, we may see H43 or even H44 at year 1945 or later...

H39 is indeed longer than the Yammy, slightly thinner though

        Loading editor
    • That would be interesting.

PS: What is your H39 armour layout?

    • Don't have my phone with me at the moment, but I'll check and see what it is ASAP.

    • Thanks XD

    • Belt:

      9"/20.5"/9"

      Deck:

      8"/16"/8"

You can probably get away with adding or taking away a couple inches of armour here and there depending on if you have problems getting damaged by cruisers or lightly armed battleships.

    • ...

That is very thin armour on the fow and aft ends of the belt. Don't you get problems with BB guns just wrecking your bow and stern?

        Loading editor
    • The bow and stern are both VERY small, the citadel takes the majority of the ship.

I've also noticed that hits to the bow or stern don't do nearly as much damage as hits to the citadel.

        Loading editor
    • Ah Okay.

Guess I should start updating my armour of all my battleships. How big are the bow and stern areas of the NC (not urgent since I plan to retire her eventually), Montana and Yamato?

        Loading editor
    • It's different for different battleships, but generally speaking, battleships of higher technical year will have larger citadels and smaller fore/aft ends. Mid-tier battleships may or may not have a large citadel (depends on the ship), and the low tier BBs should have evenly spread armour.

    • Two games of the many I had in my H39, which I named Ersatz Raeder. I killed at least one battleship in each game and these were both in Expert. The interesting thing was I killed them with my torps. That's right: I was able to kill ships with the H39's torpedoes.

That is pretty hilarious when I think about it XD

        Loading editor
    • LOL

        Loading editor
    • Riddle me this: what is more pathetic than being torped to death by a H39 when you are sailing a battleship?

How about being torped to death by a H39 while driving a Yubari that failed squaded.

If that sounds ridiculous, let me tell you that it is true. And that is kinda sad when you think about it. How a ship as nimble and fast as Yubari can be torped to death by the H39.

Man me and my Ersatz Raeder are having such funny moments XD

        Loading editor
    • Well, a while back, I fail-squaded with my Long Jiang Chinese destroyer with a few Yamato's for the lulz, and managed to sink a Yamato myself...

2x2 torpedoes with each doing 2800 damage with a 60 second reload and with a 7km range somehow beats 3x3 46cm each doing 3100 damage with a 36 second reload and 40km range.

Not even sure how incompetent that guy was. It took all 24 of my torpedoes to take him down...

        Loading editor
    • Woah...that is just really sad. Was he at least shooting at you, or is he one of those battleship players that doesn't pay attention to anything other than what he is shooting at?

        Loading editor
    • Oh no, he was tunnel visioning me the whole time. I even took a couple hits from his secondaries which took away about half my health.

        Loading editor
    • Oh okay. Well I guess we can't call him complete stupid. Just a really really bad shot. Even worst than I am, and I am not known for accurate hitting.

        Loading editor
    • I tried to update the WWB for the newest update, but it has caused the game to only show partial screen and is unplayable. Are you having the same problems as me?

        Loading editor
    • NVM, got it fixed so no worries XD

        Loading editor
    • Nothing really notable in this update, apparently some bugs were squashed and you can now buy a couple more German ships for gold.

Admiral Hipper is for sale for credits though, which seems exciting.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, I bought the Admiral Hipper to celebrate the update and I managed to grind enough Lvs to unlock the German Engine Boost. Now my AH can make 25.7 knots and my H39 can reach 28.7 knots.

      ...

...Damn that's fast for a battleship. Hell, it's faster than any of my cruisers par Yubari, and that is more like a DD in disguise XD
